Coombswood Cricket Club currently play in Division Two of the Worcestershire County League. The club was established in 1921 as a working team for the Stewarts & Lloyds steel works on Gorsty Hill. Upon British Steel's buy out of Stewarts & Lloyds in 1967 the cricket club also became property of British Steel.
Since British Steel became officially defunct in 1999 the club has continued as an independent business.
However, in 2012, after 90 years of cricket at its current location, Coombs Wood relocated to its new site in Stewarts Road, Halesowen. Whilst this was a sad time for many as they had spent many years playing at the ground, the club could now push forward in developing the new ground.
The new ground has far superior facilities which include: new changing rooms, digital score board, a brick built score box, 4 x lanes astro nets, state of the art covers and a large club room.
In addition, the bar area has more than doubled in size and all football, cricket and other major sporting events are shown on live TV in the club.
With the support of the social club Coombswood CC are in the process of building the club from the grass roots, ensuring the infrastructure is in place to enable the club to produce a number of young cricketers to help move the club forward.
We currently have three leagues teams; 1st, 2nd's and 3rd's playing in the Worcester Cricket League and we have one team on a Sunday. The Sunday team is focused on developing young cricketers who are at the stage of moving from junior cricket into the adult format.
We are always looking for new players of all levels or ages. Please feel free to contact Andy Price on 07545 272185 or any of the committee listed on About US tab at the top of the page.
